hi.
i'm rachel samantha speedie - illustrator, printmaker and designer.
in june 2008 i graduated from dundee's duncan of jordanstone college of art and design
with a ba/hons in illustration. the real world is proving to be an exciting place :)
on the creating front, there is nothing i enjoy more than sitting surrounded by
a wide array of materials and simply playing; experimenting with different mediums
and seeing what happens when one mixes them, layers them, and applies them
in a concoction of manners. i love creating intricate details and interesting textures,
and stumbling across new techniques to try out again in the future.
i am also particularly fond of printmaking, whether it be a fine detailed etching or
an inked-up piece of fabric pressed against textured paper. during my final year
at art school i did a lot of screen-printing. i like the way one can keep handcrafted
elements to a piece but still achieve a nice, high-quality, finish.
my subject matters tend to be linked to nature in some way or other. growing up in the
rural region of dumfries and galloway and being surrounded by such stunning scenery
can probably be thanked for this. my degree show personal programme of study was
based on sustainability; both on a personal and global scale. i intend to carry on
touching on such themes as i commence with my career as an artist...
